菲尔•马科维茨, is forty year veteran of the International Jazz scene 和 is dedicated to realizing the full potential of improvisational music within the jazz idiom. He performs original compositions, which range from hard-cutting chromaticism to the most lyrical post-romantic ballads. 有创造力的, virtuostic, 和可访问, Markowitz presents a forward-looking vision for contemporary music. His recordings as leader include “Perputity” on Dottime Records, “Catalysis” on Sunnyside Records, “Taxi Ride” (which features an incredible reunion with his lifelong friend, 亲爱的那首), 《newbb电子》, “Sno豌豆”, “Restless Dreams” (with vibraphonist Joe Locke) 和 “Sno Peas”, with Eddie Gomez 和 Al Foster.

Mr. Markowitz leads his own trio, 和 quartet with violinist Zach Brock, 和 is the pianist in the all-star group “Saxophone Summit” (David Liebman, Joe Lovano 和 Greg Osby 和 Billy Hart). His credentials span a cornucopia of jazz; from the traditional to the avant-garde; from his early associations with Chet Baker 和 Toots Thielemans, through his multi decade affiliations with Bob Mintzer 和 David Liebman.

In 1979, he joined Chet Baker’s b和. That four-year association yielded such recordings as “Broken Wing”, “Live at Nick’s Place”, “一天两个”, “Live at Chateauvalion”. Phil has also performed 和/or recorded with Mel Lewis, Marion McPartl和, 菲尔·伍兹, 拉维柯川, 迈克尔Brecker就, 莱昂内尔·汉普顿, 尼克Brignola, 乔•钱伯斯, Miroslav Vitous, 和乔·威廉姆斯. Phil’s notoriety as a 作曲家 came in the late 1970’s when he was playing in a NYC club with legendary jazz harmonica player, Toots Thielemans As they were playing Phil’s composition, “Sno豌豆”, pianist Bill Evans walked in, 喜欢这首歌, 和 asked Toots to bring it to their upcoming recording session. Evans’ 和 Thielemans’ subsequent recording of “Sno豌豆” on the classic Grammy-nominated album, “亲和力”, put Markowitz on the map as a venerable jazz 作曲家.

For the past 27 years Phil has been playing, 巡回演出, 和 recording with NEA saxophone master Dave Liebman. Phil has served as pianist, 作曲家, 和/or producer with the quintet on “New Vista”, “航行”, “Return of the Tenor”, “Songs for My Daughter”, “千里之外”, “扭转局面”, 和 two duo albums, “But Beautiful” 和 “Manhattan Dialogues”, which was recorded in Greenfield Hall at the Manhattan School of Music. The all-star group “Saxophone Summit” has released 4 recordings including “Gathering of the Spirits”, “纯洁的光”, “探视”, “Compassion- The Music of John Coltrane”, 和 tours regularly in the US 和 Europe.

Phil has been artist in residence in major conservatories 和 universities throughout the world including the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Stockholm Conservatory of Music, North Carolina School for the Arts, Oberlin Conservatory, 和 many others around the world.
